Praise our wonderful Doctors! and more Rotary News

President's Piece, 21/02/2010

Hi again to Macquarie Park members and Friends of Rotary,

What a journey, being a Rotarian and especially a President of a Club, your eyes are open to so many projects, all of them worthy of support. I just came back from visiting a 5 year old boy Kenneth who has been flown over from New Guinea with being a candidate from ROMAC to get repair work done on his burns. I met Kenneth and his father Ari the other day, where he has been staying at Helen & Bernard Chans place before he was admitted to the Children's Hospital. Kenneth suffered severe burns at the age of 2 where he drifted off and fell into a fire in his village.

This lively young fellow had his operation on Friday and the Doctors are very happy with his prognosis. Rob Wilkinson has been trying to get Club members from both Clubs to visit Kenneth and his father at Westmead, Lianne from North Ryde went on Friday and Saturday and I visited Kenneth this afternoon, and took some food for Ari. Rob has been going in between for updates.

At this stage Kenneth is still in ICU, as he has a swollen airpipe and will be in ICU for the next few days. Rob will be doing a roster system and I am asking anyone from our Club or a friend on this newsletter who can slot in a visit and take some food for Ari, this would be a blessing. Both Rotary Clubs are involved in raising money for ROMAC every year so these miracles can take place. Seeing this boy this afternoon is an image I will never get out of my head. I have attached some photos of Kenneth

Next in our Rotary Calender, is Bowelscan week. I picked up the supplies on Friday afternoon and my daughter Carla was wonderful enough to distribute the packs to all the pharmacies. I will be speaking to the Club to also get a roster drawn up to pick up the samples to take to pathology on a Tuesday after our meetings.

Tomorrow afternoon Monday is the launch of Achieve Australia, where our member Margaret Lee works. This organisation helps with respite & employment for the Intellectually disable. The launch is at Curzon Hall, and we were invited by Margaret last week to attend. I will be going as well as other members. I believe the room is already full!. Some of the board made an executive decision over the weekend to donate $1000.00 to AC Australia. The cheque will be presented tomorrow evening.

We will also be looking at organising a trivia night soon, for a project in our community to purchase a wheelchair for someone at New Horizens centre. Leo will give us an update on this.

Conference is creeping up on us and we are proud to have a stand at the Conference this year which will be the Frank Dominello/Sanoviv Medical Institute Clinic stand which Millie Booth our member, Trina Mosley also our new member and myself will be running during the Conference. We will be supporting this project and look at getting other Clubs to help with this, to get the dream of a Sanoviv here in Sydney! more on this at our meeting.

The Clubs new member BBQ is next sunday 28th Feb at Lane Cove National Park and all are welcome. Should be a great day!

We have Peter Kirkwood visiting us at breakfast this Tuesday. A Rotarian from Waitara Club, plays the didgeridoo brilliantly. He will be playing at the Conference.

See you all tuesday for brekkie! all welcome
