Local Boy needing urgent Bone Marrrow tissue matchPublic Relations, 13/10/2008
At last thursdays board meeting, I mentioned to the Club about a local 18 year old boy, name is Jimmy Sfeir, who attends Holy Cross College is suffering from Leukemia and is in need of an urgent bone marrow tissue transplant. The Red Cross have been trying to get a blood bank bus sooner in the Ryde area, but is finding it hard to get one. The nearest one will be at Macquarie University at the Atrium from the 5th - 7th November. The Weekly Times & Northern District Times will be posting an article in this weeks paper calling for all people between the ages of 18-50 to donate blood and be registered on the Bone Marrow Tissue Typing list, in the hope that a person with the same match as Jimmy will be found. This will also help other patients with the same condition. The Macquarie Park Rotary Club will be over looking this progress and hoping that we can get the message to all donors in the Ryde Community to mention at the time of giving blood that they would like to be registered on the bone marrow tissue transplant list. Steven Sim will also be looking at getting a phone interview organised this Friday on the the Bruce Potter show on radio 99.3fm, so the message can be relayed to all of the many thousands of his listeners. Mayor Vic Tagg has also organised an article with the NDT and we have also organised the NDT to interview the mother of this boy and the article should be coming out this week. Please pass the message on to everyone, to please give blood and more importantly to be registered on the Bone Marrow Tissue Typing list. |
